First, I want to say thank you for all of the thoughts, prayers, and support that I have received over the last 5 months. It’s been quite a roller coaster. Your prayers, thoughts, love, and strength have done wonders for me.

我親愛的家人以及朋友們，

首先我想要感謝你們這5個月來給予的關心、祈禱及支持。就像坐雲霄飛車一般，你們的愛對我而言就是奇蹟。

Update:Currently my spirits are high, but Chemo does not seem to respond well with my body. My cancer levels have stabilized for the time being. Unfortunately the stable level is very high, leading to new tumor growth in the lymph nodes surrounding a major vessel, leaving it inoperable. The Chemo has also managed to weaken my immune system and damage my liver to the point that the doctors say it’s not safe to continue at this time. Sorry to report the nitty gritty, but that’s where I’m at. All this said, I’m getting out more and really trying to make the most of everyday. I’M STILL SMILING!

新增訊息：最近我的精神還不錯，但我的身體對於化療似乎不太能接受。我癌症的病情暫時是穩定的。然而要維持病情穩定是不易的，這次新的腫瘤纏繞住一條淋巴組織的主要血管，使它無法運作。化療的過程不僅降低我的免疫系統的功能也傷及肝臟，醫生甚至說這樣的情形很危險不適合進行下去。很抱歉告知這些細節，但這就是我目前的處境。這一切都在訴說著，我該更常走出戶外，試著把每一天活的很精采。現在的我仍面·帶·微·笑喔 🙂

And now for a bit more positive news! There’s an alternative medicine clinic called the An-Ho Clinic here in Kaohsiung. I’ve been going there for about 2 months and I believe that it has a great deal to do with my energy levels being as high as they are. It was recommended to me through a number of friends, doctors, and health professionals and has shown real progress in the area of alternative and integrative cancer treatments. This place does amazing things for my health and energy levels. The most aggressive treatment offered and highly suggested for Stage 4 cancer patients is a therapy called Cytokine-induced Killer Cells. These cells naturally form in the body and specifically work to attack tumor cells.  Good for me! The clinic has had really positive results using this technique and has even eliminated the cancer in end-stage cancer patients.

現在來點正面的消息吧！高雄有一間會開立替代藥物的安禾診所，我在那邊就診了2個月，我的精神狀態能這麼好都要歸功於它，是專業的醫療人員、醫生及朋友推薦我，在使用替代藥物及中西醫整合醫學的癌症治療，凸顯出它確實是有療效的。在這裡我的病情及精神上都獲得很大的改善。目前高度建議給癌症末期患者使用的是CIK細胞療法。那些細胞會自然在身體裡面形成，其任務就是去攻擊腫瘤細胞。對我來說實在是太好了。安禾診所使用的這項科技有正面的療效，甚至消除了末期病患身上的癌細胞。

I am writing this message to you to keep you updated on my battle with cancer, but also to ask for your support financially. This treatment is not covered by health insurance here in Taiwan. I feel that starting the treatment right away is the best step for my recovery, and hope that my family and friends can help me reach this goal. Two benefit events are being held this weekend to help two members of Taipei’s foreign expatriate community who were recently involved in separate accidents.

Tonight, Carnegie’s Taipei holds a fund-raiser for its manager, Kevin Skelly, who is suffering from severe head and internal injuries after a motor scooter accident last week. The 45-year-old UK native is currently in hospital, where he remains in a coma.

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm. The restaurant will serve food and drinks, and collect a minimum donation of NT$1,500 from 6pm to 7pm, NT$1,000 from 7pm to 8pm and NT$500 from 8pm to 9pm. All proceeds go to Skelly and his family.

Businesses run by members of the foreign community have also banded together to help. In addition to Carnegie’s, donation boxes for Skelly and his family can be found at the following restaurants and bars in Taipei: Alleycat’s Pizza, Brass Monkey, Capone’s, Brass Monkey, Grandma Nitti’s, KGB, Lutetia, Mayan Grill, Roxy Jr, Saints and Sinners, Sababa, Speakeasy and the Tavern.

Those unable to attend tonight’s event can make a donation at any time via bank transfer. Details are listed on Carnegie’s Web site (www.carnegies.com.tw), as well as on the Kevin Skelly Support Group’s Facebook page, where friends and family are posting updates on Kelly’s condition.

On Sunday, another group of expats is putting on an all-day benefit concert for Ken Lee Danna, a 40-year-old Los Angeles native who has been living in Taipei for two and a half years.

Danna survived a fall from the balcony of his sixth-floor apartment in New Taipei City, and continues to recover in hospital since he was admitted on Jan. 19. He suffered extensive injuries, which include a broken pelvis and broken ribs, as well as a punctured lung and ruptured kidney. Danna is currently unable to walk, though he has started to regain motion in one of his legs.

The Ken Lee Danna Rehabilitation Celebration takes place on Sunday from 1pm to 10pm in Ximending at the Armed Forces Cultural Center (國軍文藝活動中心), 69, Zhonghua Rd Sec 1, Taipei City (台北市中華路一段69號).

Seventeen bands are scheduled to play in honor of Danna, who, in addition to being an English teacher, is known by friends and acquaintances as a musician and occasional busker.

Organizers are asking concertgoers to donate NT$500 to see a lineup that includes emo-rock group The Looking Glass, funk rock band The Kenyatta Trio, metal outfit Greasy Jelly for Mercy Killing and punk band The Deposers.

All proceeds go to Danna to aid him in his recovery, with all of the participating bands playing free of charge.

“[As musicians], they all know what it would feel like if they got injured and maybe they could never play their guitar or play their instrument again,” said Karen Pavur, one of the event’s organizers.

Though confined to bed, Danna is well enough to post occasional updates online. Those who want to track his progress can join the Ken Lee Danna Support Group on Facebook.

Funds will also be raised at the event through sales of a compilation CD to which each participating band has contributed a track, according to co-organizer Brian Reynolds. There will also be an after-party at Revolver, located at 1-2, Roosevelt Rd Sec 1, Taipei City (台北市羅斯福路一段1-2號). A percentage of the proceeds from the door charge will go to Danna. Kevin Skelly was involved in a motorcycle accident and experienced major head trauma and lung damage. Over the past few days he has been receiving treatment to help his survival and the doctors have been doing an excellent job! However, he is still in critical condition. HE NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS!

Here is the last update on his blood situation.
As you know he was in desperate need of a blood type: B negative. According to the hospital and the blood banks, there is enough blood now. Also note that there are some weird rules in effect in which they turn away a lot of British and European donors. But that said, thanks to everybody who came out to help to be a donor!!! At the moment his condition is more stable, his head has had surgery to release the swelling and he is still in a coma. His lungs are the main issue now. Kevin’s family has been visiting in from Scotland this week, and the Hyatt, the British Chamber and Kevin’s friends have been extremely helpful in trying to take care of the family’s hotel stay and flights.
