Introduction to Getting The Help You Need:
Getting legal help in any location can make some people uneasy. This is especially true for ex-pats living in other countries such as Taiwan. For this reason, we at Haxstrong have written this document to give you information and help you feel more at ease.
(LAF) Legal Aid Foundation Taiwan:
One organization that is equipped to help you is LAF (Legal Aid Foundation) based in Taiwan. This organization exists for the purpose of defending people’s legal rights that do not have the financial means to defend themselves, and where the crime is punishable by three years or more in prison, or for individuals who have a mental disability and cannot fend for themselves. This foundation has been around since 2004.
Requirements for Getting Legal Aid in Taiwan:
The criterion for getting legal aid is if your problem is reasonable, you have a low or mid-to-low income, or an income or property below a certain threshold. Also note that victims of human trafficking or foreigners living in shelters and pending identification as victims of human trafficking may apply. Additionally, compulsory defense cases do not require financial assessment.
